What is the academic success rate of Japanese education at the primary and secondary levels?

The success rate would be things like knowledge, comprehension and retention test scores, and future attendance of university over vocational school.

Please, no wiki answers.
Tip for best answer: M$2.00
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

These two sources have a good deal of statistical info on Japanese education and its outcomes in comparison to other countries:

OECD Briefing Note for Japan, Education at a Glance 2005

http://www.oecd.org/dataoecd/41/12/35341224.pdf

Trends in International Math and Science Achievment 2007:

I'm not sure exactly what you're looking for but I believe a lot can be found in the 3rd chapter of this study on the Library of Congress's website: http://lcweb2.loc.gov/frd/cs/jptoc.html

That's a useful source for the general research I'm doing, but for this question I was using "rate" in terms of statistical information.
