What is the a TSA agent's starting salary?

Tip for best answer: M$1.05
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

I think the in article you wrote on calacanis.com you were referring to a position of "Transportation Security Inspector" this job title has a pay grade of "G" which is in the range of $38,776 to $60,081.

In addition to having interaction with the airport passengers. Transportation Security Inspectors are responsible for the following:

-Discover and stop emerging transportation security threats,
-Utilizing state of the art technology
-Educate and provide friendly customer service to travelers
-Screen passengers and gather intelligence

Coordinate security involving aviation, rail, and other surface
and maritime transportation

Oversee most transportation-related responsibilities of the
Federal government during a national emergency

TSA Careers
We are unique among our fellow Federal employees because we do not use the standard GS grading system you may be familiar with. We use an "SV" grading system, which is a system of discrete grades with pay ranges that differ from GS pay ranges. These discrete grades, which are identified by letters rather than numbers, have minimum and maximum rates.

In the table below, we show the ranges for each pay band.

Pay Band Minimum Maximum
A $16,831 $24,608
B $19,281 $28,124
C $21,839 $32,811
D $25,141 $37,711
E $28,869 $43,357
F $33,130 $49,748
G $38,776 $60,081
H $47,298 $73,291
I $57,631 $89,376
J $70,309 $108,977
K $84,050 $130,283
L $100,455 $153,200
M $118,459 $153,200
Basic rates are limited to $153,200. The above rates do not include locality pay. Pay rates, including locality pay, are limited to $162,900.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

According to one source a TSA Screener can start from $23,400 to $35,000 per year (1)

However from the TSA website their pay is graded A thru M
A $16,831 to $24,608
B $19,281 to $28,124
C $21,839 to $32,811
D $25,141 to $37,711
E $28,869 to $43,357
F $33,130 to $49,748
G $38,776 to $60,081
H $47,298 to $73,291
I $57,631 to $89,376
J $70,309 to $108,977
K $84,050 to $130,283
L $100,455 to $153,200
M $118,459 to $153,200 (2)

So the payscale will vary according to the job held at the TSA.

Searching the available jobs at the TSA website with the term "TSA Agent" turns up several different jobs with highly varied entry level pay. The lowest paid in these available jobs are in the $28,000/$30,000 per year range but the highest paid are over $100,000 per year. (3)
