"Melissa McCarthy was born and raised in Plainfield, Illinois -- just outside of Chicago. She left the Midwest to pursue a stage career in New York, performing stand-up at The Improv and Stand Up New York while studying at the renowned Actors Studio. She then moved to Los Angeles, where she worked her way up to become a cast member of the Groundlings Main Company -- a title she still holds, performing at the theatre regularly. In 2005, Melissa married longtime boyfriend (and fellow actor) Ben Falcone. They have a daughter, Vivian, born in 2007. Melissa's comedy background served her well, winning her the part of kooky chef Sookie St. James on "Gilmore Girls." Since then, she's gone on to another regular television role, as Dena on "Samantha Who." Melissa's film work includes parts in "The Kid," "Charlie's Angels," "The Life of David Gale," and "The Nines" opposite Ryan Reynolds. She also can be found in a number of hilarious internet shorts with comedy group 100 Pounds of Candy (seriously, check her out as "Marbles," it's frightening and funny).
