What is something you build yourself that you could easily buy in a store instead?

I'm curious to know if anyone makes their own soap, builds their own paper towel dispenser, or anything else that most people don't think twice about buying.

Pictures of the item and links to any how-to articles you may have used are desired, but not necessary.
Tip for best answer: M$0.00
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

I built a clock one summer at camp. As you can see from the image it isn't the most elaborate timepiece ever made and the actual clock mechanism is pre-made, but a clock is still something that most people just buy in a store.

You can't tell from the image, but it is extremely smooth to the touch and is nothing more than wood chips glued onto a board with wood burned numbers.

For me:

1. Jewelry (necklaces and earrings so far).
2. Bath salts (I love combining peppermint essential oils with epson salts and it's much cheaper).
3. Candles (Again, I like to make ones with essential oils) How to Make Molded Candles, How to Make Container Candles, How to Make Gel Candles
4. Wreath How to Make a Christmas Wreath

Soap is fun to make, but be careful... don't burn yourself!
