1. e4 c5 2. Nf3 d6 3. d4 cxd4 4. Nxd4 Nf6 5. Nc3 a6 example the black pawn move here is distinctive and changes the pattern by defending against threats to blacks queenside. Kasparov liked this variation which was popular with Grandmasters ten twenty years ago. The Sicilians are relaively complex for a novice.
