Rosacea is a chronic medical condition, which is characterized by facial erythema (a vivid redness). The condition can also be associated with outbreaks of spots/pimples too.

Rosacea can affect men or women. Statistically though women are three times more likely to develop the condition. Prevalence of the condition is at is peak in people aged between 30 and 60 years of age.

Rosacea predominantly affects the cheeks, forehead or nose. The condition can also affect other parts of the body such as the scalp, neck, ears and chest.

There are 4 main types of diagnosed Rosacea, these are:
*Erythematotelangiectatic rosacea – This is a permanent redness/blushing (particularly of the cheeks)
*Papulopustular rosacea – Symptoms are red bumps that can be filled with pus. The condition tends to take from 1-4 days to clear up
*Phymatous rosacea – This type involves enlargement of the nose
*Ocular rosacea - Red, dry and irritated eyes and eyelids.

Rosacea is not often a lifelong condition, it can develop at any point in life, but especially from the age of 30 and onwards. The treatment varies according to which type of Rosacea the patient has.

*Erythematotelangiectatic rosacea – Treatments can include application of sunscreen, application of tropical medication, electrocautery – removing blood vessels electronically and laser therapy - http://www.skincarephysicians.com/rosaceanet/treatment_redness.html
*Papulopustular rosacea – Treatments can include tropical medication or various oral medicines - http://www.skincarephysicians.com/rosaceanet/treatment_bumps.html
*Phymatous rosacea – The only treatment is a variety of surgical procedures - http://www.skincarephysicians.com/rosaceanet/treatment_thickening_skin.html
*Ocular rosacea – Treatments can include washing the eyelids regularly or specific drugs to treat the condition - http://www.skincarephysicians.com/rosaceanet/treatment_eye_problems.html

Rosacea is a skin disorder. It only occurs in adults and presents itself on the face as red, bumpy skin that sometimes contains puss. These bumps can come and go in flares and can be treated but not cured. Other symptoms are a large, red nose along with visible veins, irritation of the eyes, and constantly blushing. This condition can be accentuated by excessive drinking or exercising, eating spicy foods, and using certain drugs, among other things. The reason these things make your skin disorder worse is because they create an excess of blood flow to the head. Although you can stay away from these activities once you know you have Rosacea, the cause has not been discovered yet. Middle-aged people tend to get this the most, from between 30 and 60-years-old, and are especially susceptible if they have fair skin.

This condition does persist throughout one's life and the symptoms themselves can't go away on their own. It will actually get worse over time, in most cases, if not treated. There are tons of options for treatment, including natural and home remedies. Check out this page for medications and surgeries, and this page for other alternatives.

I hope this helps!
