What is reproduction and spore formation in fungi?

Tip for best answer: M$0.25
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Most of the fungi reproduce by forming spores through mitosis. Chromosome number remains unchanged. No mating precedes and this is referred to as asexual (imperfect state) and also includes fungi with no spore formation. Most pathogenic fungi fall in this group. Fungi which reproduce by sexual spore formation are called heterothallic, e.g. Histoplasmosis, Blastomycosis, Cryptococcosis, etc. Semi fertile fungi do form the homothallic group, e.g. Pseudallescheria boydii.
