Radical Islam is a cult version of Islam. Almost all religions have cults that spring up within them. A cult is a corrupted or perverted version of the original religion. Members of cults often believe that their original religion was corrupted and that their cult version of their religion is the true form of the religion. For that reason, most members of cults don’t see themselves as being members of a cult. While Radical Islam is one of the most visible cults (and the one that gets the most media coverage in the US), there are others. Mormons who practice bigamy believe in a cult version of Mormonism.
Radical Islamists, as they’re often called, believe that the people who run the United States in particular and the western world in general are threatening their way of life. As a result, they feel the need to martyr themselves in terrorist attacks. It is their way of waging a holy war or Jihad against their perceived enemy. They perpetually believe the western world is attacking their beliefs and strive to defend themselves.

Determined to achieve this new world order by any means necessary, including violence and mass murder, radical Islam is characterized by its contempt for the beliefs, practices, and symbols of other religious traditions.
