Photoshop is a program that was created by Adobe. In the beginning, it started out as a photo manipulation program. However, now a days, many people use Photoshop to digitally enhance their artwork or use it to start their artwork.

Once you use Photoshop to enhance your artwork or photos, you can import and export files from Photoshop to other Adobe programs such as Adobe ImageReady and Adobe Illustrator.

Photoshop has many selections and includes an eraser, paintbrush tool, airbrush tool and many others. You can use Photoshop to do layers. You create a background layer first and then other layers can be added as more images are created. With this option, you can work on the layers separately, rather than the whole image. After you are done, you have the option of flattening the image which combines all the layers together. This is useful for saving an image in a certain format, since some options will not allow you to save more than one layer.

The most recent version of Photoshop was released in 2005 and allows you to import photos from your digital camera.

Photoshop is one of the most widely used software that specializes in editing photos and is compatible with almost all operating systems provided for by Micrsoft, Apple and Linux. The main draw of Photoshop with regards to graphics enthusiasts and experts is that it is user-friendly and is equipped with all the necessary tools to edit images, however Adobe Systems have also developed a more elevated kind of digital software especially designed for artists that use vector graphics, which is the Adobe Illustrator.

Photoshop is preceded by an image software known as Image Pro, which was launched during year 1988, when John Knoll prodded an idea with his brother to develop a software that can be shared openly. It was in 1990 that Adobe adopted the software of Knoll brothers after other technology firms shut the doors on them.
