Tip for best answer: M$3.00
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

The most defining photo of 1952 would be the first explosion of the Hydrogen bomb at Eniwetok. There were many photos taken of this event but the most famous is probably the following image of that explosion
http://rwmson.net/images/ivy%20mike1.jpg
"On Nov. 1, 1952, the U.S. detonated the world's first hydrogen bomb, code-named "Mike," on the Enewetak Atoll of the Marshall Islands.
The resulting explosion was about the same as 10 million tons of TNT,
or 700 times greater than the fission bomb dropped on Hiroshima. The
cloud produced by the explosion was 25 miles high and 100 miles wide,
and the island on which it exploded simply disappeared, leaving nothing
but a gaping crater."

United States tests first hydrogen bomb
The United States detonates the world's first thermonuclear weapon, the hydrogen bomb, on Eniwetok atoll in the Pacific. The test gave the United States an advantage in the nuclear arms race with the Soviet Union.

The one photo that would define 1952 would be the solemn procession of King George VI of England as he is going to be buried at St George's Chapel on his Windsor Castle estate.

A major flood on the Missouri River proves the wisdom of the Pick-Sloan Act. Flood damage is severe in Pierre, with much of the town inundated. The flood causes damage all through South Dakota and in downstream states. The severity of the flood provided additional justification for construction of the Oahe Dam.
