Cognitive therapy in general is a type of therapy based on helping patients change their behavior through helping them change the way they think about themselves and the world. It is based on the idea that people create their own reality through their thoughts (forming, for instance, thinking errors, or "cognitive errors" by creating dysfunctional ideas about themselves such as "I will always fail"), as well as the idea that people can solve their own problems and change their own situations with some help/coaching from a therapist. Cognitive therapy is about examining how the client perceives the world, then asking them to question their hypothesis and suggesting alternative ways to view the situation. Clients are introduced to new ways to view the world, and thus, new ways to live.

Huge fan of (non-mindfulness based) CBT. Works well with (non-hypnotic) NLP.
