Methyl Iodide (chemical formula CH3I, also goes by iodomethane). It is currently being proposed to be a pesticide for strawberry fields in CA. People are up in arms about it because the amount that will be used will be over 120 times what scientists are saying is ok. The farmers and people living close by can become sensitized to it. Breathing methyl iodide fumes can cause lung, liver, kidney and central nervous system damage. It causes nausea, dizziness, coughing and vomiting. Prolonged contact with skin causes burns. Massive inhalation causes pulmonary edema.
