The Flood is the term used for perhaps the greatest threat in the Halo universe. The flood is a type of parasitic being that feeds off living beings. In the Halo game the Flood has become a major threat to all types of living aliens including humans, and other species in the Covenant, such as the Brutes and the Elites.
The Flood feed off the sentient life forms and makes them into more members of the flood, which is very similar to zombie like behavior. The flood’s origins date back to the Forerunners, a highly intelligent ancient race that created many forms of technology to protect sentient life from the plague of the flood. Their technology included the Halo Array, the Ark and the Shield Worlds.
