What is Jailbreaking an iPhone?

I'm just not sure what that means..
Tip for best answer: M$0.00
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Jailbreaking is when you break through the firewall on the Iphone. Which will allow you to put anything on your Iphone without having a security blocking you from doing it. So you are not restricted to just the applications provided by Itunes, you can download things off the internet.
But it DOES void the warranty!

Got it thanks! Then when an update comes out you run the risk of it becoming an iBrick? Correct?

You can still update it of course, but you have to do it yourself. Some people take them to the Apple Store to have it done, but if it's jailbroken you cannot do that because it voids the warranty.

It's like breaking through the security codes of the phone so you can put more stuff into it, essentially, personalizing it a lot more; however, you do void the warranty in doing so. There are pros and cons. You can read about it here: http://carloreid.com/iphone-jailbreaking-pros-and-cons/
