What is it traditional to make pork and sauerkraut?
How do I make pork and sauerkraut? Can I make sauerkraut without it smelling up my house? Can I make pork and sauerkraut in a slow cooker?

Pork knuckle, sauerkraut and a kind of dumpling called Knoedel is the traditional Bavarian national dish. Bavaria is the most southern county of Germany.
As I was raised in Munich, the capital of Bavaria, my mother taught me how to make this dish.
The pork meat in this dish is usually a pork leg or pork belly roasted in the oven for about 2 hours and basted with beer.
For the sauerkraut you need to peel and chop and apple and an onion and cook the sauerkraut with that for about 1/2 an hour. You also add whole caraway seeds to the sauerkraut for better digestion as this is a very "heavy" plate.
There is no way of avoiding the house smelling of sauerkraut. All plants of the cabbage family, i.e. white and red cabbage, broccoli, Brussel sprouts and cauliflower smell the house out as you put it, but we rather call it a scent. It's maybe an acquired taste and there are people who don't like it. Still, all plants of the cabbage family are very, very healthy.
