What is intelligent design?

What are the concepts and ideas behind intelligent design?
Tip for best answer: M$0.25
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

The basic idea of intelligent design is that the universe wasn't created randomly.
That all the physical laws that the universe obeys were created by something intelligent.
Strictly speaking, intelligent design doesn't believe in God, Christian or non. It merely states that this universe couldn't have been created randomly out of nothing.

Can intelligent design and evolution go hand-in-hand?

Yes, though they won't admit it for political reasons. It's not a big step for Intelligent Designers to grasp the concept of evolution. But for an aethistic evolutionist, it's near impossible.
Evolution was originally derived by a Catholic monk.
Darwin, a Christian also, took the monk's idea and expanded it and scientifically supported it.

The original idea was that God planted 4 different kinds of seeds on the earth (i think it was four) It was something like: animal, plant, human and parasite/insect. All the different animals evolved from these original seeds. So did all the plants, and all the races (colors) of man. Darwin took this idea of plants and animals going down separate evolutionary lines and tried to prove it scientifically.
