Hi @fullow! ;)
Heavy metal or just metal is another classification or sub-category of rock music. This genre started during 1968 to 1974 which is characterized by total loudness, extremely amplified deformation, resounding drum beats and exceptional, loud guitar leads. Heavy metal rooted from psychedelic rock (“style of rock music that is inspired or influenced by psychedelic culture and attempts to replicate and enhance the mind-altering experiences of psychedelic drugs” -Wikipedia) and blues-rock. Fans of this type of music are called “metalheads” or “headbangers” which was coined because of the genre’s influence towards listeners which is the head-banging effect which most rockers/band do.
Heavy metal music has also different types as well. There’s glam metal which was popularized during the 80’s by bands such as Motley Crue and Ratt. There’s also the type called underground scenes which sound more extreme; thrash metal which was started and popularized by bands like (the ever popular) Metallica and Megadeth. Other types are called death metal, black metal and nu metal (includes rapping).
You can identify a heavy metal band easily by the music they put out. Their songs are usually loud and strong due to intense instrument use and forceful vocals.
