What is heartland robotics?

Tip for best answer: M$0.25
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Heartland Robotics is a company that plans to build a new generation of robots with the goal to increase productivity and revolutionize the use of robots in the production area. Their robots are not for sale now, but the company is hiring competent engineers for production operations that will have a real input into their designs.

Its CEO is Dr. Rodney Brooks, an Australian robotic entrepreneur and visionary who was a robot builder in his youth, and later owned such companies like Lucid Inc., Artificial Creatures, Robotic Ventures and iRobot. He was also the former Director of the MIT Artificial Intelligence Laboratory and the MIT Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL) from 1997 to 2007.

Dr. Brooks has published countless papers and books about computer vision, artificial intelligence, robotics, and artificial life.

Kismo! The most lovable robot!

What form and function will the new robot take?

iRobot application has been remote controlled robot track driven devices, swimming pool cleaners, and vacuum cleaners.

How exciting will the new technology, be?

Imagine the revolution in robotics, now they are being used and handled massively by soldiers in places like Irak and Afghanistan; they are starting to have visual object recognition; soon they will be capable of social interaction and could be aware of people.

...from track driven devices to aerial autonomous robots, the shape of things to come..

During the last marathon that I ran, the media was using a Remote controlled mini-heliptor to film the race.

Andrew Ng, machine learning system work well enough, for an RC controlled helicopter controlled by a computer, too fly upside down, one of the most difficult maneuvers.

Rodney Brooks - Big Thinkers

1. Ordinary people will be able to touch robots and interact with them
2. Robots will interact social with human beings
3. Doctors are interacting with robots using the Da Vinci system
4. Brook discovered people were interacting with Robots and engaging behaviors that were not anticipated in the initial programming.
5. Robots can detect where the person was looking, shared attention, and get language acquistion
6. Genetic behaviors are being programmed in silicon. Brooks is looking for the missing components, a deterministic system. Brooks believes people are biomechanical machines. Brooks wants the lose of our specialiness as humans.
7. There are 4 million robots in homes
8. Robots are being used on the battlefield
9. Robotics mimick emotions or at some level do they have emotions
10. People are moving parts, technology, and machines into their body.
11. Brooks asks the question, "What does it mean to be alive?"

I found this video about "Machine Learning under Changing Environment" very interesting.

There are two types of machine learning:

1. Supervised: Learning theory is supervised learning and begins by telling the algorithm the right answer and the algorithm learns the relationships from the inputs leading to the right answer and is expected to produce more of the right answers.

2. UnSupervised: Unsupervised learning is used for solving many problems and grouping information into clusters. Unsupervised learning algorithms have been used to create line detection and 3D models from the angular displacements. Unsupervised learning algorithms discover structure in data

The most exciting potential for machine advancement is unsupervised learning.

A third type of learning was propose by Hans Moravec

Conditional reflex: Reinforced learning is based on reward function or conditional reflexive learning. If the algorithm is right then a positive feedback is provided and if the algorithm is wrong then an inhibitory feedback is inputting into the system.

Good point about Robots and war. However, war seems wasteful to me.

I'm more interested in industrial robots
