Gauge symmetry is a type of field theory used in physics in which the Lagrangian (physicist Lagrangian described many powerful theories in physics, which are invariant under some symmetry transformation groups: global symmetry, local symmetry, cornerstone of gauge theories) is invariant under a continuous group of local transformations. This transformation is called gauge transformations, which is referred to as the symmetry or the gauge group of symmetry or simply gauge symmetry.
The modern importance of gauge symmetries appeared first in the relativistic quantum mechanics of electrons. Gauge symmetry is useful in condensed matter, nuclear and high energy physics.
