What is football handicapping?
You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Here is the simplified version of how it works:
You have the Dallas Cowboys playing the Atlanta Falcons. The team that is most likely to win are the Atlanta Falcons so most people will bet on them. The bookie(person who takes the bet) does not want everyone to bet on the Falcons, otherwise, he will lose money if they win.
To counter that, he sets football odds so that people will want to bet equally on both teams. By setting odds he makes it more profitable to bet on the Cowboys or he sets a point spread like +3. This means that if y ou made a bet on the with the point spread and the Cowboys lost by less then 3 points, you still win the bet as the +3 ads 3 points to their score with the bookie.
This is where football handicapping comes in where a football handicapper, will determine how much the Falcons will win by, how many points will be scored during the game and so on.
As mentioned, football handicappers use many methods to handicap a football game and all use unique methods. They are several football handicapping experts but to find a good one, you need someone that has a 55% ATS win.
Here are some books about the topic:
The Professional Football Handicapper by David Paul Greene
Gambling Times Guide to Football Handicapping by Bob McCune.
I hope this helps!

M$If you went to a sports book and asked 10 gamblers how they handicap you would get 20 different answers. Some people use stats, facts and figures to model a game and others are less scientific and make their decisions more on feel. It is highly subjective.
