What is date sugar?

How is it different from white sugar or table sugar? Being high in fiber, which recipes are cooked or baked having this type of sugar?

Hello mmng23,

Date sugar is created after much less processing when compared to white sugar or table sugar. Since it is made by dehydrating dates and then grinding them into sugar it has much more nutrients, vitamins and minerals than normal sugar. However, there are major drawbacks associated with using date sugar, chief among which is, it does not dissolve in liquids and does not melt like normal sugar does. This limits the ways in which this sugar can be used however; it is still used when baking. For more information on date sugar and how it can be substituted with white sugar check this link http://whatscookingamerica.net/Q-A/DateSugar.htm

If you want more information on which recipes use date sugar check this link which has some listed http://recipes.wikia.com/wiki/Category:Date_sugar_Recipes including one for pecan spice cookies. Another link with a number of recipes that include date sugar is http://www.food.com/recipe-finder/all?foodido=15364 here you can recipes for fruit spread, muffins, candy, cookies, gluten free bread and pancakes.
