Challah is a Jewish word for bread, now traditionally a braided egg bread. In ancient times the word simply meant bread. The staple foods of ancient Egypt were bread and beer.

The bread made by Jews while in Egypt would have been similar to that made by the ancient Egyptians. There are no examples of ancient Egyptian braided egg bread, but there is no reason that it could not have been made.

The differences between any ancient Egyptian challah and the modern versions would be these. The flour would have been whole wheat, and the kind of wheat would have usually been emmer. Emmer is not the same grain that is usually used in modern bread. The sweetener, if used, would have been honey or dates rather than sugar. The oil used would have been olive oil, not corn oil or other modern cooking oil.

Note that modern challah has become popular with non-Jews, who sometimes add dairy products (milk or butter). Jewish challah avoids those in order to be neutral regarding meat vs dairy.
