what is carpal tunnel

Tip for best answer: M$0.25
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

The carpal tunnel is a narrow channel in your wrist that protects the main nerve into your hand and the tendons that you use to bend your fingers. An article from the Mayo clinic (http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/carpal-tunnel-syndrome/DS00326 ) explains:

- quote -
Bound by bones and ligaments, the carpal tunnel is a narrow passageway — about as big around as your thumb — located on the palm side of your wrist. This tunnel protects a main nerve to your hand and nine tendons that bend your fingers. Pressure placed on the nerve produces the numbness, pain and, eventually, hand weakness that characterize carpal tunnel syndrome.
- end quote -

The same article describes carpal tunnel syndrome, its causes, and treatments.
