What is business calculus?

What's difference between business calculus and regular calculus?
Tip for best answer: M$0.25
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Business calculus is a course taken by undergraduate students who are majoring in business. This version of calculus is predicted to be less difficult compared to regular calculus.

A business calculus class does not study trigonometric functions because very few applications in business require such functions. A business calculus class is referred to as a commercial math course because the math used is a subject present in commerce.

Business calculus focuses on accounting, inventory management, marketing, sales forecasting, and financial analysis. A strong background in calculus is not required for these focuses. For this reason business calculus focuses more on elementary arithmetic, elementary algebra, statistics and probability. This approach is more practical for the emerging entrepreneur. Science and engineering calculus doesn't benefit managing checking accounts, price discounts, markups and markdowns, payroll calculations, simple and compound interest, consumer and business credit, and mortgages.

Calculus is essentially the study of change in Mathematics. It has two major branches, differential calculus and integral calculus. These two branches work together to show change, normally expressed on a grid. Differential calculus would represent the curved line on the grid. Integral calculus would represent the area between the x-axis and the curved line. The functions in calculus are very similar to those that would be found in geometry.

Business calculus is very similar to traditional calculus, but you are calculating change at a business level. Most of the financial aspects of a business can be calculated through business calculus. These changes are displayed on a grid with the use of functions. Functions are the expression of a change of quantity. Some of the most popular functions or uses of calculus in the business world are marginal cost, average cost, revenue, profits, marginal revenue, and marginal profit.
