What is best way to reduce consumption of soda?

I rarely overeat and because of having to nearly a mile to and from work each day, I get a decent amount of exercise between that and basketball. However, I have a tendency to overdo it whenever I drink soda. Most of time, between one and two cups are enough for any meal but I often find myself drinking more than that. Any ideas on how to cut back?

Start off slowly, by rationing sodas for yourself. If you buy a case of soda, put, for example, three cans into the fridge, and those will be your three sodas for the day. Try to find something else to drink in the meantime, so that you won't feel deprived and be craving soda when you can't have it. For instance, Kool-Aid has 1/3 less sugar than pop... or maybe some ice cold water or juice would hit the spot for you! Once you get used to drinking only 3 (or whatever number you chose) pops a day, start rationing one less per day.

I know it obvious but the easiest thing to do first is simply replace it with something more desirable. Water, no sugar added juice, unsweetened tea, unsweetened coffee.

If you drink soda's that contain caffeine you may want to start with coffee, move on to tea, then end up at water.

Start slow replace one drink ever day with an alternative, do that for a week, then do two and so on and so forth.

Good Luck!

Did it myself. I was drinking 3 20oz soda's a day. Doctor said the caffeine alone was going to kill my kidneys and told me to cut back. So I did.

From the sound of it, you are right to be concerned about drinking too many soda drinks.

Looking at mindconnection.com, it might be enough to scare you into never drinking this type of drink again. They actually call it "poison" and "Osteoporosis In a Can"! they explain in some detail how the body is robbed of calcium by these drinks.

They also tell you how it can lead to cancer and diabetes!

Another site, naturalnews.com makes similar claims with a few more scares.. It seems that there is nothing good about soda drinks.

Now I have always believed a little of what you fancy is ok, so it might be worth substituting most of your drinks for water or fruit juice and just having a can as a treat now and then.

The best way to reduce your consumption of soda is simply to go cold turkey in my opinion. If you don’t have any in the house then it is awful hard to drink very much. The next thing you should do is replace soda with Crystal Light or some other flavored drink that isn’t as bad for a person to drink a lot of, and actually has some taste beyond water.

I have tried to replace soda with just water or club soda, something like that and it never takes because in the long run I’m looking for something that actually has a good taste behind it. You can also give yourself “cheat days” where you go and get a can or 12 oz bottle of soda as long as you cut it off at one.
