When consumers shop for a thin or flat television, more often than not, they bring home a liquid crystal display, or an LCD TV. However, plasmas are the original flat-panel TVs, and in the decade since their introduction, these sets have incorporated a number of improvements that have resulted in a picture quality by which all other flat-panel technologies are compared.

Plasma HDTVs continue to offer the best value among the largest flat-panel sets available today, and a plasma's speedy pixel performance allows it to display sporting events, action movies, and other fast-moving video content with superb clarity, surpassing the performance of even the latest 120Hz LCD HDTVs. Today's best plasmas also deliver the most accurate color and detail of any display technology currently available—and they do it with the widest range of viewing angles. Plasmas are known as the movie-lover's display choice for good reason, and one of these eye-friendly sets can be the ideal centerpiece in a home-theater setup.

LCDs are lighter, use less power, and are a bit brighter. They are overall a bit better for rooms with poor lighting control.

Plasmas have better contrast, far better blacks, are better with motion, cost a bit less, are heavier, less power efficient, and are better in rooms where you can control the lighting more. They are far better for games as they don't have anywhere near the number of input lag issues as LCDs can have (google input lag LCD and read about it if you care to)

Overall, Plasma is better, but there's a strong case for an LCD too. It depends on your situation, really.

I have the sharp aquos lcd. I researched this and found that in most instances LCD is preferable. The sets consume less energey than plasma, are lighter and do better with ambient light. As far as contrast and colors, plasma is slightly better, but most people can not apprciate the difference. Also if plasma tv breaks, there is no fixing it.
