What is bacterial vaginosis?

Will bacterial vaginosis cause a bacterial infection in a man? What are the symptoms and does it cause a lot of pain? How is this disease treated and is it ever fatal?

BV is an imbalance of the bacteria in a woman's vagina, ie. more harmful bacteria than good. The USA CDC has a good page explaining it: http://www.cdc.gov/std/bv/stdfact-bacterial-vaginosis.htm Men don't get it from women btw, although they have their own version with urinary tract infections. No, it's not fatal but causes pain, burning and itching.
