Awesome detection is an extra feature of Rock Band 2. There is little information about it and it is rumored that is has no real effect and merely exists to fill the gap left when Juke Box Mode was removed from the game.
You can unlock Awesome Detection by typing Yellow, Blue, Orange, Yellow, Blue, Orange, Yellow, Blue, Orange (YBOYBOYBO) at the Extras menu.
