I was reading a book on autism the other day and it had a list of 29 symptoms of autism. You can go to your pediatrician first to get a referral to an autism specialist if the pediatrician believes your child may have autism. Symptoms must be present before the age of three in order to receive an autism diagnosis.

Autistic children usually have significant speech and language delays and don’t usually socialize with others. They also have repetitive actions like rocking back and forth, counting, opening and closing doors, or turning lights on and off. When you observe an autistic child they look like they are in their own world.

I look after an autistic child and he is obviously different from my kids. Like many autistic children, he doesn’t deal well with change in his routine. It upsets him to the point that he starts stimming-he will throw a tantrum and if he doesn’t get his way after a short period of time he finds a corner to sit in while he covers his ears and counts to ten. Stimming is a way of self soothing.

A child can show signs of autism at a young age and keep them well into adulthood or grow out of it. Currently, there is no evidence stating that autism is hereditary. Behavior modification is often a helpful way to help an individual who has autism. Autism comes from the root word self. So, depending on the child, he or she can be taught to interact or be more social with others as opposed to isolating themselves.

Autism is usually recognized as a spectrum disorder, such as problems of social skills, empathy, etc., because the acuteness of symptoms ranges from a mild learning as well as social disability to acute impairment, with numerous difficulties and substantially strange behavior activities.

Autism causes children to behave in uncommon ways and a kid with autism appears just like any other kid, but has distinguishing behavior patterns. At the same time, it is difficult for children with autism to have a word with other individuals and express themselves using words and sentences.

Currently, there is no cure for autism. In spite of this, kids with autism have potential for building up their skills as well as proficiencies and they can be helped if they pick up early, well-focused intervention and involvement.

The Autism is considered to be a developmental disability that results from a disorder of the brain and central nervous system impairing social interaction, communication and other activities. Therapists use highly structured and Intensive skill-oriented training sessions to help children develop social and language skills, such as Applied Behavioral Analysis.
