The city of Atlanta is famous for a long list of events dating back as far as hundreds of years. Events from the Battle of Atlanta during the Civil War to the numerous events that contributed to the Civil Rights Movement, there is no shortage of rich history and events that make this beautiful city of the south famous.
However, most notably the city of Atlanta is known as the home of the 1996 Summer Olympics, an internationally known multi-sporting event. The ’96 Olympics were unofficially known as the Centennial Olympics and as a result Atlanta built the famously known Centennial Park.
To this day many people credit the Olympics as being the single event that transformed Atlanta from a charming southern city to the modern city it is today.
