The 'arbo' section refers to trees, so arbosculpture or arborsculpture is specifically the art of sculpting from trees and does not necessarily include topiary. This can be used for everything from practical items like park benches to highly artistic and creative sculpture such as this work by Axel Erlandson:
Arbosculpture relies on the compliant nature of trees in extreme environments. Arbosculpters use weights to bend branches until they grow in a new direction and approach grafting, where wounds are opened in two living branches or trunks, and they are bound tightly together until they fuse during the regrowth. With these techniques extremely complicated shapes can be achieved.

Arbosculpture is a rich and centuries-old art form where trees are slowly bent and grafted into beautiful and functional shapes such as weaves, bridges, chairs, hammocks, even full houses.
