M$In the book Undergraduate Surgery by A.K. Nan, an appendicular lump is described in the following paragraph:
"This is nature's attempt to localise the infection (during acute appendicitis), which would otherwise lead to a spreading peritonitis (inflammation of the membrane which lines the inside of the abdomen). The structures, forming the lump, are the inflamed appendix with the adjacent caecum and colon, the greater omentum (the policeman of the abdomen, which attempts to wrap up any pathological organ to localise the pathology), and the surrounding coils of the terminal ileum. The usual fate of the lump is a gradual resolution, but it may turn into an abscess or lead to a spreading peritonitis."

M$An appendicular lump forms when the appendix is not removed early enough during infection. The omentum and intestine begin to adhere to the inflamed appendix forming a palpable lump. Once a appendicular lump has manifested, operating on it is risky and will only be considered if there is pus formation, fever, and toxicity. Medical management treats the condition.
