Alkaline water (also known by the terms "alkalized water", "ionized water", "reduced water", "electrolyzed water", or "microwater") is oxygenated water--regular drinking water treated with electrolysis (yep, the same process zapping off the chin hairs of middle-aged women across America).

HOW IT IS SUPPOSED TO WORK
``````````````````````````````````````````````````
If you buy into the Alkaline Water myth, it supposedly works because it has extra electrons--whereas normal tap water oxidizes those "precious" electrons--thus giving our body EXTRA VALUABLE ENERGY! But wait! That's not all! "It also hydrates our cells up to SIX TIMES MORE EFFECTIVELY than normal tap water or bottled water.Thanks to the so-called micro clustering – through electrolysis, the water molecules are drawn together much more closely, thus providing our cells with more water." 1
It's also supposed to help you lose weight, cures cancer, fights eye disease, slows the aging process, improves your complexion, and maintains healthy bones!456
STUDIES SUPPORTING THE BENEFITS OF ALKALINE WATER
```````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````

All bunk.

But if you're up some detailed reading supporting this product and its curative properties, please read from the studies supplied here:
http://www.detoxifynow.com/clinical_studies_alkaline_water.html
and
http://heartspring.net/water_clinical_studies.html

But take it with a grain of salt. The studies, even if they were conducted scientifically and honestly without prejudice (which is doubtful), are hardly conclusive.

THE TRUTH ABOUT WHY IT'S ALL HOOEY
`````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````
The whole angle behind this sales pitch is that people should buy electrolysis devices to "Alkalize" their own water. Some places sell machines, devices, replacement filters, or the water itself. It's But here's the problem, even if you could "alkalize your water" is that your stomach is full of gastric ACID which would nullify the Alkalized water long before it reached the intestine, where water is absorbed into the body of hydration. Not to mention that when the water leaves the stomach, headed for the intestine, the pancreas does a nice job on its own of alkalizing the water.23
Hey wait, your pancreas is a nice built-in "water ionizer". Ooooh! And it doesn't even need replacement filter cartridges!
Most of the people rallying people to the Ionized Water cult have no scientific or medical background. Oh, and the Mayo Clinic does not endorse Alkalized Water and recommends drinking tap water instead.
You want pure, healthy water? Drink distilled water instead.
Or forget the devices! You want alkalized water? Put some baking soda in it. Cheers!
AND NOW A RANT FROM MY HUSBAND,
THE OUTRAGED CHEMIST ON THE COUCH NEXT TO ME:
``````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````

Referring to source 1 describing how Alkaline Water works: "Wait, now they're just putting random words together! Do they even know what "electrolysis" means? It's using electricity to split water into hydrogen and oxygen gas! How that could possibly bring water molecules closer together is beyond me! Not to mention that the water probably doesn't even make it past your esophagus before it's been neutralized--your stomach is highly acidic compared to MILDLY basic water. Doesn't make any sense...I've heard a lot of stupid claims before, but this....erg, arg!....I'd rather have magnets in my pillow...."

IN CONCLUSION...
```````````````````````````
In case you still have any doubts about whether or not the marketing on this product is legitimate or a scam? Well, consider that a leading supplier of Alkalized Water, called Kangen, has actually adopted the domain, kangenscam.com, to pitch their product.
They even advertise "water classes" to educate people on adopting the alkalized water lifestyle. Despicable.
This idea that the alkalised water will be neutralised in your stomach is entirely untenable. Since everytime your body adds HCL to your stomach, it also adds sodium biocarbonate to your blood. So thats a non-starter. It brings up something very important however. You must not do anything to reduce stomach acidity when you need to digest protein.
Now supposing people are correct and you cannot increase your pH higher than its normal range. As far as I'm concerned this remains to be seen. But nevertheless, movement of electrical impulses around your body will be stimulated.
I'm supposing that this is nonsense. I suggest that you could raise pH up higher to what a kids pH (7.6) would be. Or even higher. I think that people are just making it up that this is impossible. I'd like to see some evidence.
But in any case a sick person has lower than normal pH. And the main benefit with alkalised water will be to help sick people.
Alkalized water and ionized water are both scams that take advantage of the general public's lack of scientific expertise. Most often these scams take the form of selling equipment and electrical devices.
Unfortunately, if you do a basic google search, the fact that google panders to businesses over facts (which makes sense for them) you'll find all kinds of garbage information with nonsense studies about these two scams.
Stephen Lower, a chemist from Simon Fraser University, has a webpage that calls these two ideas "Snake oil on tap" and explains why there is no scientific efficacy behind the statements made for alkalized and ionized water.
http://www.chem1.com/CQ/ionbunk.html
Here is an essay written by Brian Dunning from Skeptoid.com which specifically talks about Kangen water. More information and links can be found here:
http://skeptoid.com/episodes/4139
From this essay, Mr. Dunning quotes Kangen:
Kangen water is ionized, which makes it alkaline.
Which he follows with:
Pure water actually cannot be electrolyzed and dissociated into ions to any appreciable degree, it's not electrically conductive enough. You need to have a significant amount of minerals and impurities in order for it to be electrolyzed, which is why Kangen and its competitors also take your money for packets of mineral salt additives that you need to add to your water to make your machine do anything. Do this, and your water will become chemically alkaline with a cargo of dissolved metallic ions in solution. Basically, your $6,000 Kangen machine, when used with the provided chemicals, is a way to accomplish the same thing as making a weak Clorox bleach solution. To chemists, the term "ionized water" is meaningless.
I think You mean "alkaline water" here. Alkaline water is also known as "ionized water". Ionized water is claimed by manufacturers to be extremely beneficial to human health and marketed with claims that it is an antioxidant which can slow aging and prevent disease. Others note that such claims contradict basic laws of chemistry and physiology.
Water is alkalized through a "water ionizer" in a process called electrolysis. It does this by exploiting the electric charge of the calcium and magnesium ions present in nearly all sources of drinking water. When a source of water lacks mineral ions, such as distilled water, or has been filtered by reverse osmosis, water ionization has no effect.
Some research suggests that alkaline reduced water may be useful in scavenging free radicals in the laboratory setting. Tests on in vitro lymphocytes suggest that reduced water can prevent hydrogen peroxide-induced damage to DNA, RNA and certain proteins. However, drinking ionized water would not be expected to alter the body's pH, and there is no evidence of any claims made by manufacturers that drinking ionized water will have a noticeable effect on the body.
Electrolyzed water has been used by the food industry to sanitize food products; though effective in bacterial solutions, it was found less useful when sanitizing utensils, surfaces and food products.
No the claims do not do this. But the implied counter-claim that pH is not important goes against the reality that every cell and every organism is an electrical system. For two long scientists have been studying chemical minutiae and missing the bigger picture of the body as an electrical system.
Each individual cell has its voltage specification, just like your refrigerator. And the body must have electrical movement all through it to maintain itself. Further to that, every parasite has its own preferred pH range. And the cancer preferred voltage is plus 30 millivolts or pH 6.48.
If you have an alkaliser and a Tennant biomodulater its very hard to see how the cancer cells can hide from your efforts to take them out and take them down. They cannot run, they cannot hide, they must therefore die.
pH: A measure of the acidity or alkalinity of a solution, numerically equal to 7 for neutral solutions, increasing with increasing alkalinity and decreasing with increasing acidity. The pH scale commonly in use ranges from 0 to 14.
http://www.answers.com/topic/ph
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Alkalized water is that of regular water that has had it's pH levels increased by process of electrolysis. This is artificially done through ionizers, which generally increased the water's pH level to 8.0 pH - 10.5 pH.

As said by many alkalized water companies and supporters, the benefits of drinking alkalized water (Also can be referenced as Ionized water) are under debate as many over-exaggerate the benefits (if any) pH enhanced water can do. The benefits according to research done by the listed sites below and in the "What's your source" tab, suggest that Alkalized water benefits your overall health by causing your stomach to produce more hydrochloric acid. Hydrochloric acid is that of an acid produced in our stomach walls which aid in digesting out food. This is created by controlling the pH levels of our stomach. Alkalized water affects this due to increasing the pH levels in our stomach; When this happens the stomach releases hydrochloric acid so it can control the pH level in our stomach and return it to 4.0 pH, this further aids in allowing your stomach to chemically breakdown food into nutrients. There are also many claims which are also being discussed.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
An important part of taking new 'breakthroughs' in technology, such as alkalized water is claimed to be, is to look at it skeptically. This is VERY important to do, and you may want to do much, much more research continuing from mine if indeed you are looking to use this product. As everyones else's bodies are different, it is very important to consult a doctor, and find good, factual information and studies by organizations, such as the FDA that have reputations for testing such products.
Alkalized water does indeed seem to be a product using psuedo-science to fool the public and the general public's lack in scientific knowledge to put out products such as these.
A water Ionizer splits water into ionized acidic and ionized alkaline fragments. The ionized alkaline water is rich in anti oxidants that flushes out the impurities from our body and thus maintains the acid-alkaline body pH balanced. Alkaline water also hydrates your skin to prevent premature aging.
If someone has told you that drinking alkalized water is good for you
or for some condition (e.g., preventing bone loss, as I once heard)
they are trying to sell you something. Although technically true that
a higher pH is more likely to prevent dissociation of hydroxyapatite
which your bones are made of, it is practically useless because your
body tightly regulates pH. If you have a pH outside the range of
7.35-7.45 (which is alreadt alkalized) you will die or be in very
serious condition. If you drank alkalized water, you will raise your
pH for about 30 seconds after absorption, but your body would
compensate within one to two breaths (by retaining CO2, which converts
to HCO3- and H+ in water). I couldn't find any research on this on the
pubmed database, probably because you'd have to be a fool to conduct
such research.
Hope it helped a bit!!:):)
No thats all wrong. Your body DOESN'T tightly regulate pH. Only a healthy persons body regulates pH tightly. All chronic disease is characterised by low pH. Furthermore to heal an injury you need higher pH. Now the argument could be made that a person who is entirely healthy doesn't need to input more voltage. Since he's entirely healthy. Well duh???!!!!! Thats merely tautological.
Every horticulturalist knows the importance of pH. The pH of soil has to be just a little lower than the pH of the plant that will grow in it. This provides movement of electricity around the organism. Also ph can be chosen to make it hard for a significant parasitical threat to this plant.
Now simple obvious stuff that everyone knows escapes the notice of our cancer specialists. Not only do you have to have the right pH. You need electrical movement around the body. Which would best be assisted by infusing oneself with alkalised water. Body surfing in the ocean would also be an excellent way of adding voltage. But there can be no question that drinking ionised water is a very powerful alternative.
