What is a secondary soloist? What is a demi-soloist? Where did these names come from?
My kids were awarded these "roles" in the Nutcracker - and we don't know what they mean!

A demi-soloist can have 2 meanings. It can be a rank in a company like a second soloist in English or it can mean a solo part performed by a corps de ballet member, usually danced by 2 dancers. The Rank demi-soloist is used in mostly in europe except for the Houston ballet. A second soloist is a rank between a corps de ballet and a soloist. It would be the same as a demi soloist in europe. Essentially, rank wise they are the same if referring to rank.
