What is a pal and what is a friend?

Ok, I really want to know the difference between a pal and a friend. I was wondering which one is closer? A friend or a pal? How many friends do you have and how many pals? What can you do with a friend but you can’t do with a pal?
Is a friend better than a pal or not? And if yes, why is he better?

Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

A pal is the guy/gal you get along with at work. A friend is the guygal you invite to dinner. A friend knows your family and alot of your thoughts. I have lots of pals but just a few really close friends. With a friend you can trust things with. A friend is always better because they are there when you need them.
Like the old saying:(a bit)
A pal will be there to bail you out of jail, a friend will be sitting there with you going boy that was fun.

Pal is a term I used when the kids were younger. In my mind, a pal is someone you know but not that well. A friend is someone you consider family. Someone you can trust and who is there for you when you need someone to lean on- and in turn you are there for them. Whether it be 5 pm or 3 am. A friend sticks with you when things are hard or difficult.

In my opinion a friend is someone much closer to you than a pal.

A pal is a more casual acquaintance than a friend. A pal is generally a vague acquaintance you know whom you've maybe shared a chat with, and that person has likely helped you out with one or two favors. Nothing big, just enough to say, "She's a pal of mine". But not quite a buddy. Buddies share in-jokes and get together in big groups to share laughs. Buddies can tease each other and give each other guff. A pal? Cannot. A pal can only be respectful and polite. Pals are usually called such either in condescension or when someone's trying to weasel something out of a person who doesn't know them very well--as in "Thanks, you're a pal." or "Hey pal, it's good seeing you again."

I don't have many pals because I can't stand 'em. If someone stays a pal for more than 6 months or so, then they'll never be a friend and you might as well give a shove back out to sea.
