Medical transcriptionists are professionals that transcribe a doctor’s patient report. When a doctor sees a patient they may give voice recordings of any pertinent information on the visit including the reason for the visit, findings, whether tests or prescriptions were needed and statistics on the patient. These transcripts can be either in a hard copy or digital form dependent on the doctor or hospital’s needs. There are online schools as well as colleges that offer courses in learning medical transcription. Some will offer a certificate upon completion. A person must learn medical terminology as well as a bit about anatomy and disease processes. He or she must also have good keyboarding skills, grammar and spelling. As far as managing a person’s health, a medical transcriptionist helps in an indirect way. Their work helps the doctors so that they will have the correct information and background about a patient and will be able to make informed decisions on a person’s care.
