A line segment is just a part of a line. I line is technically a series of points that goes on forever in both directions. A line never curves, it is always straight. The line segment is bounded on each side by a point. A line segment can be any length as long as it is not infinite, in which case you have the entire line itself.
You can learn about line segments in any geometry textbook or on several math websites. Just type in "line segment" in a Google search and many sites will be listed that will be helpful.
There are some properties of line segments that are interesting. If you have points A,B and C on a line in that order and take the length of segment AB and the length of segment BC and add them together you get the length of segment AC. If you take one segment from each of two parallel lines, the segments will also be parallel. Segments may also intersect and they may also be skew, which is neither parallel or intersecting.
