What is a good investment plan for funding a retirement?

Tip for best answer: M$1.00
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

It really depends on how long you have till retirement and how much money you have to invest.

An investment vehicle that is gaining popularity in recent years are Index Universal Life policies. The nice thing with this type of investment is it can not lose value.

You have to answer three main questions. How much can you regularly invest?
How many years before retitrement? What is your risk tolerance?
There is an investment axiom that the percentage of your investments in safe investments should be the same as your age.i.e. if your 30 yrs old, 30% of your investment should be safe (muni bonds, treasuries, divdend paying utilities.) The rest in more aggressive stocks of companies that you know that you do a little research on. If you shop at Costco, buy Coke or eat at Panera Bread, do research and buy the stock. Same for Nike or Chipotle.
I always told clients buy what you know. If you stop liking the company , you'll sell the stock.
