What is a good HDMI switch?

My plan is to hook up my Apple TV and Xbox 360 to an HDMI switch and then have the switch hooked up to the DVI input on my TV.

Does auto switching work? If not, then I would need a switch that could be changed from a remote. I have a Harmony One remote.
Tip for best answer: M$1.00

Robert Heron, the HDTV guru of PCmagazine and ZDTV, in the episode 178 of DLTV makes some really good reccomendations about HDMI swtichers. He talks about auto vs. manual switching and other pro's and con's.

Cheap switches may have issues. The best solution is to find a good receiver that has HDMI switching. I can recommend the Onkyo TX-SR706. 7.1 surround sound, 4 HDMI inputs, 2 HDMI outputs, Dolby TrueHD, and many other goodness.

Auto switches have issues. I had one where the auto switch would flicker from one input to another. They are also usually more expensive than manual switches. Best is to get a manual switch and a good remote that can handle multiple components with a touch of a button like the Logitech Harmony 880. I have my 880 turn on the HDTV, switch it to the right video, turn on the 360, turn on the switchbox and switch it to the right input, turn on the receiver and switch it to the right input all with one button.

If you are looking for a cheap alternative, try to find one that has HDMI 1.3a capabilities in order to futureproof yourself. I have listed a pretty good one below.

You want one of the Monoprice switches. I have three, and they are fantastic. They support multiple HDMI connections, 1080p output, and they support HDMI 1.3b. For the price, there is none better.

They do both auto-sensing and are remote controllable. I use mine with a Harmony One remote as well, and the codes for the switch are already in the Harmony database. Adding the switch to your Activities on the remote is a snap.

Plus, the price is amazing as well.

Monoprice is an outstanding company for AV supplies. Their prices are right, their shipping is fast and their customer service is top knotch. One of the things I particularly like about their ecommerce site is that their user reviews are mostly unfiltered - write something and it appears right away - positives and negatives.

Here are all of the HDMI switches avaliable from Monoprice:

Specifically, I have this one:

It works seamlessly and transparently with my Harmonly 8800 remote and home theater setup. My wife or I presses "watch TV" and all of the inputs and levels are changed to accommodate. It's perfect.

I obtained this information from my own personal experience. You can also review monoprice experiences with a simple google search.
