What is a good cms that is good at managing multiple pages and works with XHTML and CSS templates?

I've outgrown wordpress and am looking for a more advanced CMS. I'm tired of hacking wordpress to be able to do what I need it to do.
Tip for best answer: M$0.25
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Give CMS Made Simple a try. It is easy to use, not overloaded in standard installation but have a lot of additional modules.

Generally, when looking for proper CMS you should specify your requirements more precisely to get better answer. What are you needs or what were the hacks on wordpress? Do you need photo gallery, news, user management, forum, shop...? What is the most important: designer friendly, webmaster friendly or content writer friendly? What technology do your prefer, if any.... You see there are a lot of aspects :)

I second Joomla. Windows SharePoint Services might also be a good place to start.
