The Genius Playlist on the iPad work the same way it does on an iPod, iPhone or within iTunes.
The Genius Playlist will analyse the chosen song, then create a playlist based on a number of factors: Similar genre, speed, similar artists, etc. Once the playlist is created you can either continue to listen to the playlist or you can save it as a playlist that you can use again in the future.
If for some reason you do not like the playlist created by Genius, click on the Genius icon again and it will take another attempt at creating a new one.
