Ford is trying to build crossovers with the characteristics of both an SUV (such as lots of power), and, a minivan (better fuel economy), is a crossover-style car. And the Ford Escape is a crossover vehicle with just that those features. Depending on the type of engine, a 2011 Escape gets 240 horsepower and as much as 28 miles to the gallon on the highway. Other Ford crossover models currently in production include the Ford Edge, the Ford Flex, and Ford Explorer. Each of these fits more or less into the category of SUV—but their makers tried to change parts of their design to make them smaller, give them better fuel economy (these models get between 17 and 27 miles per gallon), or otherwise make them more like a minivan.
