You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Your body fat ratio, know mostly as the body fat percentage is the percentage of fat that your body contains. In order for your body to function properly, it is critical that your body contain a certain amount of fat. Body fat helps to control your body temperature, cushions and insulates organs, and is the main form of energy for the human body. It is very important that everyone has a healthy amount of fat.

When people want to lose weight, it is meant that the person wants to lose fat. By calculating your body fat percentage, you can decide how much is the right amount of fat to lose and still be healthy. Most people know that a person that carries too much weight has a higher chance of developing diabetes, cancer, heart disease, and high blood pressure. If a person does not have enough body fat, it can deprive the body of stored energy, protection of their organs and your body might even start to use muscle protein as fuel.

There are many sites on the Internet where you can figure your body fat percentage. Here is one place you can go to figure it: http://www.healthyforms.com/helpful-tools/body-fat-percentage.php.

Normal body about 1 / 4 is the body fat, weight 60 kg if to count, and that body fat to about 15 kg, 15 kg Feiyou think is a terrible thing, but the amount of fat on the the human body is a protective effect, because the fat can protect the fragile human body organs, can make it fixed, do not tamper with, so the existence of fat still be necessary.
Male body fat accounted for an average weight of 10% to 15%, women accounted for 25%, if 25% of men exceeded women in excess of 30% or more, it is considered obese.

Hello @tjaldrum!

Body fat ratio or body fat percentage is the total weight of the person's fat divided by the person's weight and consist of essential body fat and storage body fat. The amount of body fat you carry, your body fat percentage makes a difference to your body shape and your health.
The shape of your body is affected by body fat percentage because muscle tissue is more compact than fat. For instance, 1 pound of muscle tissue would be smaller than a balloon containing 1 lb of fat.

Measuring changes in body fat percentage instead of just measuring changes in weight can be very motivational when dieting.

Body fat is measured through different ways:

1. Bioelectrical impedance - a very low level of electrical signal is sent through the body by standing on a sensors on a body fat monitor. The signal will then travel fast through lean tissue and more slowly through fat. Bioelectrical Impedance devices use the information from the signal to work out body fat percentage.

2. Skinflod measurements - this method used skinfold caliper to pinch the predetermined sites on the body. This test is carried over by a professional and should be repeated to get reliable results. A person should not exercise before this test.

3. Hydrostatic Weighing Tanks - this is the most accurate but also the most uncomfortable because you will sit on a scale in a large tank of water and blow all the air out of your lungs and submerge yourself completely. You have to stay underwater for 5 seconds while your underwater weight is recorded.

4. Infrared Interactance - this involved a different colored light that is shone onto the skins surface at selected areas. The spectrum of the wavelengths reflected is analyzed by computer. The lean: fat ratio at the test areas can be calculated as fat and lean tissue that have different interactive spectra.
