What international airport has the highest rate of baggage loss?

Tip for best answer: M$0.25
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

I can't find worldwide stats, or even stats by airport for the US.

The worst places might be overloaded out-dated ramshackle airports in the former Soviet Union or Africa, but those places are least likely to have published stats.

In the US there seem to be stats by airline, but not by airport.

American Eagle and Atlantic Southeast had the worst records in the last survey that seems to be available.

Which leads us to guess that either Atlanta or O'Hare International (in Chicago) might be the worst in the US.

Basically if you want to maximise your chances of losing your baggage I recommend you make a connection at an airport that is big, physically complicated, far busier than it was ever designed for, and has legacy systems that have not been upgraded yet. :)

Of course upgrades to airport systems can make a radical difference, so dated stats may be very unfair to go by.

Looks like it had a major upgrade in recent years. It was #1 for customer satisfaction in this survey:

I couldn't find stats for the luggage mishandling either now or in the past, and I haven't been there for a long time.

However I guess it had the profile of an airport where you would have expected problems: old, big, complicated and busy. But it looks like the redesign might've fixed things, at least in the new Terminal 4.

I've heard some horror stories about Barajas in Spain and I was wondering if there is anything official regarding baggage loss.
