What instrument is used in the intros to Life in Technicolor and The Escapist?

Is it an actual instrument or is it just computerized?

Note: The Escapist is the "hidden track" right after Death and All of His Friends.

The part I mean is the first 40 seconds or so in this video.

Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

I think the instrument that you're referring to is a shamisen, a sort of Japanese string guitar. I believe it's slightly changed around digitally though, in the song that is.

Hey folks,
I am sorry but the answer submitted by 'cyber34' is incorrect.
They've used Indian instruments called "Santoor" and "Tabla", which is also evident from their new video.

Cheers!!!

If you're talking about the instrument that comes in at 0:39 that is a hammered dulcimer. If you mean before that, they have recorded instruments then played them in reverse.
