What industry of law is best to get into with no experience and a Bachelors in criminal justice

I currently have a bachelors degree in criminal justice and 5 years in the military. I have no real experience in the legal or criminal justice fields. However I would like to get my foot in the door for criminal investigation, like private investigation. Where should I start?

Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

With your military experience you probably can get a five or ten point veterans preference for many government law enforcement jobs. While some of the federal jobs are more like police work, there are many agencies seeking individuals with military backgrounds to do investigations. Check out usajobs.gov.

The department of labor indicates strong growth in field of private investigation. According to the DOL, "The majority of States and the District of Columbia require private detectives and investigators to be licensed. Licensing requirements vary, however. Seven States—Alabama, Alaska, Colorado, Idaho, Mississippi, Missouri, and South Dakota—have no Statewide licensing requirements, some States have few requirements, and many others have stringent regulations."

You should start by looking for certification programs in your state. Einvestigator.com has links to each states licensing requirements and the associated trade organizations. It might be a good starting point.

You can not practice law without a law Jurisdoctorate and passing the bar.

However, you can be elected as a Sheriff without a law degree.
