What idea's would you bring to the table if you were one of the 20 entrepreneurs at the White House right now?
If you had the ear of the White House what would you suggest the government do to help the economy? The point of asking people such as @zappos and @ev is to gain a unique view that would normally not be seen in the administration so try to think outside the box on this one!

There clearly needs to be oversite but it could be simplified.
Our tax system is so confusing that most of the people in the government and even those on the tax committees have not been able to figure it out and pay their taxes properly.
There are so many regulatory agencies and licensing dept.s all with their own requirements and fees.
I totally believe in state's rights but it seems like there could be a better system for professional workers to be able to get a license and have it recognized by all 50 states. Right now if a lawyer wants to practice law they have to pass the state bar exam and pay that states fees. If they live in a town that borders two or more states they may opt to take multiple exams and hold multiple licenses but then they also pay multiple fees. It is the same for doctors, nurses, PA's and a number of other professional services.
The short answer is: Please keep it simple.
Simple tax form
Simple licensing requirements
Simple reporting

M$Once people start feeling safe again, they will start buying again. Once they start buying again, business will grow and start hiring again and more banks will be confident enough to increase lending, I suspect, much more prudently.
Rather than focusing money on banks, I would focus on mortgages. John McCain had an idea. Buy the mortgages of people facing foreclosure and write them a new mortgage. But he made a mistake. He was going to write the mortgage at present value.
Instead, write a first mortgage at present value and a second mortgage for the balance that is paid for by the government. Make this second mortgage assumable by anyone who can afford the first mortgage. And this second mortgage will be a no interest mortgage that is only paid down when the house is sold. If the house is not sold for enough money to cancel out all of the second mortgage, then part of the second, no interest, no pay until sold, mortgage is passed along to the buyer. That would make these houses marketable, because people would know that they would never have to pay off some of the second mortgage unless the house's value rose. Each time that the house is sold, the portion of the equity higher than the last first mortgage is paid back to the government. Gradually, over time, the second mortgage is paid off. In this way, neither the government nor the banks have to untangle all of the sliced and diced mortgages.
I noticed recently in Business Week that the $787 billion stimulus package could have purchased "3.9 million homes at the median U.S. price of roughly $200,000."

M$I think I get it. So, your saying that the interest built-up would be sold as "extra baggage" of dynamic undertaking(so to speak) of a willing buyer of a foreclosed certain foreclosed houses. example: if a potential buyer liked a certain house, they would share some of the debt, in a way. Sounds like a balanced idea anyways.
Start doing what they are doing in NYC, mayor bloomberg is a idiot savant if you ask me.
This SOB leased out all the garbage receptacle bins and similar in the entire city to advertisement companies to put adds on them in return for revenue. Why didn't i think of that ?
We should start doing this in all cities and towns in america.
And then multiply this idea.

Personal Note: Duh.
Lets start using ALL of our resources we already have, I think the country has ceased to remember all of our grandfathers came here with little or no money. It doesn't take money to do great things.
It takes doing great things to make money.

M$Take the money saved and put it into green energy, basic research, applied research, genetics, .... in particular small startups and entrepreneurs in these fields.

M$Another possible idea that could synergistically corelate with the above one, is to implement a modified road/law/transport system. This, in addition to pushing different mass transportation systems; Subways in many states, and alternative methods of travel that other countries have already been using for a while, such as Mag-levitation, etc. I might just try to persuade President Obamas "people," to encourage legislature(s) to pass "trial" transportation in modifying routes/areas in select cities, and calling them "Efficiency Zones." Wherein would be an maximum allowance of weight and size in the vehicles traveled. This would be primarily be regulated to accommodate the exclusive use of only motorcycles, and the "new make" vehicles(with some exceptions).
