M$Hermann Memorial Park. This park includes a small train that goes around the park, paddle boats, a splash park, several museums as well as the zoo. Don't forget to check out the Japanese Gardens while you're there. They have a replica of the Terra Cotta warriors there.
You can also catch a free outdoor play at the Miller Outdoor Theater in the summer months.
There's also Johnson Space Center. Fun place for the family to go for a more hands on experience with space exploration.
The Houston Zoo. Always a favorite with the kids and my husband. They have a wonderful kids sections that includes a splash park and carousel. There are also usually special exhibits going on so it's worth checking out before going.
