What home blood pressure monitoring devices are the most accurate?

I'm looking for brand and model.
Tip for best answer: M$1.00
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Hi, This model is highly rated:
Omron Automatic Blood Pressure Monitor with Comfit Cuff HEM 780: which is currently listed on Amazon at around $65.00 with free shipping.

While there are two types of blood pressure measuring methods - digital and aneroid - and both can be used at home most people opt for digital monitors for home use. They come in three styles, arm, wrist or finger band. According to the Mayo Clinic, results find that the arm band is best for accuracy, but many people with larger upper bodies prefer to use the wrist cuff which can be simpler to work with. Avoid using monitors that use finger tip measurements, they are not accurate.

Aneroid is the method most typically associated with the way the doctor measures your blood pressure - with a cuff around your arm that inflates via air pressure and then listening via a stethoscope. These are not expensive but can be damaged easily and you must know how to use the stethoscope properly.

Check with your doctor for recommendations best suited for your situation. Also, a good way to verify that the model you chose works well is to bring it in for your next check up and see if the numbers match those that your doctor measures in the office.

Also, for a membership fee, Consumer Reports has specific recommendations on blood pressure monitors.
