What happens when you bet on a soccer game and it turns out a tie?

Ties are pretty common in soccer. So is betting. President Obama bet Prime Minister Cameron beer on the outcome of the USA England World Cup Game. It was a tie. What should they do? What would folks do in a pub?

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

The truth is that real fans of the game would rarely bet with each other on the outcome of a match, for the simple reason that, as you point out, the likelihood of a draw is so high. You might ask a friend who he / she thinks will win the game, and he / she might ask you the same in return, but a suggestion of a wager at that point would suggest a degree of football / soccer naivety. If someone wants to bet on soccer, the best thing for them to do would be to do it at their local bookmaker; they offer all three options - team A, team B, or the draw!

Obama and Cameron probably used the match as an opportunity to build rapport. However, Cameron is a member of the English gentry (who would generally be more concerned with sports like bowls, cricket and rugby) so he himself might not even know much about soccer.

I'll bet a beer than neither of them are real soccer fans. See my other question about where will all this diplomatic beer betting end.

if a friend and i would be in this situation in the pub i'd think we'd do some of the following:

-nothing (everyone pay his bill)
-everyone pays (each one ows the other one a beer)
and most likely:
-1 turns to buy a shorty (tequilla, jacky, some shit..) and the other one the beer. Both cheer for the great match or try to get the match out of there memory...

Turns into Fluff talk about the womens tits at the other table or the comments of the reporter. maybe some friend just joined the table or the next card round has begun.
